Personally I prefer to use 2 column WordPress theme rather than 3 or 4 column themes, as I think 2 column theme is sufficient enough to place all needed widgets in sidebar or if it’s too crowded we can add footer area to be a storing place for additional widgets

2 column WordPress theme is much better than 3 or 4, because having only 1 sidebar means we have wider pages for our articles, that’s rarely found in 3 or 4 column WordPress theme
